compactCOM M40 EtherCAT - connecting multiple devices (chain)
Hello,
I would like to know if there is a limitation regarding the number of devices connected to each other using the EtherCAT connectors?
What I mean - is it possible to connect one device OUT port to another device IN port and how many devices can be connected this way?
thanks!

Hello,
for sure wait for HMS official state but if you look at EtherCat general specification, it can have 65535 devices without restrictions. Really I'm expect this rule also here to not have any specific restriction due exact protocol requirements.

Hello Yuri,
Duris answer is correct the limitation would come for the specification. EtherCAT supports up to 65535 for a segment. Ethercat does not need to consider the load put on the bus by nodes like Profibus or a can bus would. I would expect the amount of data to be a more significant factor to consider rather then number of devices.
