You can actually use any SMTP server your would like including your Intranet server as long as the eWON can reach it and it supports basic authentication.

So we just change the SMTP server information in the configuration and they should be good to go? Nothing else needs to change?

    @maxjerome873

That is correct. As long as the server is reachable via the LAN or WAN you shouldn't need to alter anything else.

Im still not able to make this work. My eWon LAN is on a static IP so it can communicate with my PLC and HMI and it's using the Wifi card to connect to the VPN. Those are the only connections I have made right now. Since the email server is not on the same subnet as my LAN and the Wifi connection is using the VPN, do I need to set the LAN so it's a DHCP client and use it? I can send log files if that would help.

Can you send me a full backup via private message? Additionally can you please include the SMTP server details as well?

What kind of email server is this? The eWON is unable to authenticate against it.

uact-SMTP Server returned an error (SMTP Rep:5.7.4 Unrecognized authentication type\B6

Does it use plain smtp or IMAP? If it uses plain SMTP we should be able to make it work.

    From my IT guy:
"Exchange has a different protocol for connectivity then IMAP which is specific to Outlook, but we can configure IMAP if necessary. However what you are configuring is just SMTP. You should not need any IMAP settings. "

If that doesn't help, can we do a call with you and him today?

I may not have been clear, we want to ensure it is not using IMAP and is using plain smtp.
I could make myself available later this afternoon. Just PM me a time.

I wanted to close the loop on this thread as we had discussions off-line in regards to this issue.

We were actually able to use the customers Exchange server in relay mode as opposed to via authentication. Now this will only work internal to the network the eWON is deployed in.

One thing however that came to mind after these discussions were how Microsoft Exchange actually handles authentication. In more modern Exchange servers (post 2007 if I recall correctly) SMTP "basic authentication" including AUTH PLAIN and AUTH LOGIN are disabled by default.

The only authentication type enabled by default for the Exchange server is NTLM. If we re-enable "basic authentication' we should be able to make things work just fine again.

    1. Within Exchange System Manager -> Servers -> Your server -> Protocols and then expand SMTP

    2. Right click your server and select properties.

    3. Click the Access tab and then Authentication.

    4. In Authentication select the Basic Authentication checkbox.
