Inquiry about Ethernet PHY IC specifications in Ethernet/IP CIP Safety.
We are considering whether to select an Ethernet PHY IC with or without a time-stamp function.
The IC we selected is DP83848MPHPEP, which does not support IEEE 1588.
We would like to inquire whether there will be any problem implementing the time-stamp of EtherNet/IP CIP Safety even if we apply this product.
Best Regards.

The timestamping used by CIP Safety is not based on IEEE 1588. There is a separate, safety-related mechanism specified in the CIP Safety specification (ODVA CIP Vol.5) to check the timebase and drift between CIP Safety Originator and Target on Ethernet protocol level. CIP Safety therefore does not rely on an absolute time but on regular, local system time ticks with a tick time of 128 µs and a precision of at least 200 ppm.
