understand how Cosy manage to select frequency
Hi Guys,
We are currently using your device in a challenging environment where signal strength can vary significantly. To ensure optimal performance, I would like to better understand how the device manages frequency selection and whether there are options for manual configuration. Could you please clarify the following points regarding the frequency band management?
-
How does your device select the frequency bands during operation?
- Does it automatically scan for the best available frequency, or is it pre-configured to use certain bands?
-
Is there an option to manually select or prioritize specific LTE/3G/2G frequency bands?
- If yes, how can this be configured?
-
Does the device support automatic frequency band switching based on signal strength or quality?
- For example, does it dynamically switch between bands like B20 (800 MHz) or others?
-
Can the frequency selection be controlled via firmware settings or through the user interface?
- If manual selection is possible, which settings need to be adjusted?
-
What is the default behavior of the device when multiple bands are available?
- Does it default to the strongest signal, or does it have a predefined frequency priority?
-
Are there tools or diagnostics available in the device interface to monitor which frequency band is currently being used?
-
Does the device include fallback mechanisms to switch to a different band or network type (3G/2G) if the LTE signal is weak?
-
Hi Fabrice DIANA!,
Thank you for reaching out to us!
To help you out, could you let us know which specific device you're using? We offer various Cosy and Flexy models and extension cards with different modems and capabilities, so having those details will allow us to provide more precise assistance.
Device Fallbacks for Weak LTE Signal
Some of our devices and extension cards offer fallback options to switch to 3G or even 2G if the LTE signal weakens. For instance, the Cosy+ 4G EU model supports fallback to 3G, while the Extension Card (for the Flexy) Verizon 4G LTE version does not include fallback functionality. You can find these details in your device’s product documentation.
Also, please note that certain countries have begun phasing out older networks, meaning fallback might not be available locally even if your device supports it.
Band Selection Options
Currently, there isn't an option to manually select or prioritize LTE, 3G, or 2G bands on these devices. They automatically attempt to connect to the optimal band based on the SIM card and carrier configuration.
To see which frequency bands your carrier operates on, you can use
Just select your country and carrier, and then cross-reference the supported bands with those listed in your product documentation. If the bands don’t align, you will need to deploy a different device that covers those frequencies.
Monitoring Frequency Bands in Real-Time
Once your device connects, you can view the signal strength, usually shown as "bars" on the Cosy or Flexy home screen. While you can also check additional details under Menu > Status > System Info, I don't belive we currently display specific frequency bands there.
I hope this clarifies things! If you need more information, please let us know which exact product you’re using, the location of use, and your carrier.
Best regards,
i.A. Franziska Gültig0
