Profinet ABCC M40 network name.
Hello.
I have a Profinet ABCC M40 properly configured and working in a Network. When I set up the TIA Portal project, I have to use the 'Assign name' option to assign a name to the device. This has to be done just once.
In the case I have to replace the ABCC module with a different one, it is not recognized by the IO Controller. I have to connect to the PLC, run TIA Portal, and 'Assign name' to the new module. Is this normal? Is there a way that I can replace a Profinet module with a new unit and no further action is needed.
Thank you very much in advance.
José Luis.

Hello Jose,
This sounds correct the device name is stored on the CompactCom module. After replacing it the name will need to be set again.
In some scenarios for device replacement the alias name may be used by the Controller to identify the device and automatically set the name to the new device. I believe this requires a set network layout. Even in this scenario the device name is lost and set with a DCP.setname request. You can find more details in the white paper on the PI web site.0
