QUESTION
Inside your Ewon Cloud, you can set your Ewon Edge to be in "Open" or "Restricted" mode. What does this mean? How does this impact which LAN device(s) are accessible?
ANSWER
Setting your Ewon Edge to be in Restricted or Open mode, impacts LAN device(s) accessibility when remotely connected to your Ewon Edge. This can be adjusted in your Ewon Edge's Remote Session menu, by selecting the cogwheel under "Links".
When set to "Open", there is no filtering. All LAN devices can be reached by their IP address.
In "Restricted" mode, LAN devices connected to your Ewon Edge's LAN are only accessible when defined in your Ewon Edge's Remote session menu. This can be used to limit which LAN devices are accessible for a remote connection.
To define a device for Restricted Mode, click "Add link", under the "Links" section, in your device's Remote session menu. Here you can define your LAN device and will need to specify the IP Address, Protocol, and Port number used to reach this LAN Device.
In the example below, I am reaching my LAN device at 192.168.1.20 using HTTPS on Port 443. You can also add the specific Path your device will be accessible by if needed.
Once the link is added, you can now reach your device with the settings used by selecting the blue link for your device or through the "Open" button.
TROUBLESHOOTING
If you cannot reach your LAN device after defining it in the "Links" section, ensure your IP address, Protocol, and Port are correct for your device. Please also ensure your LAN device's IP address is within the same subnet as the Ewon's LAN IP for the Port it is plugged into.
For example, on this Ewon Edge, the LAN is within the 192.168.1.X Subnet on LAN ports 1-3. Thus, my LAN device of 192.168.1.20 is within this subnet. Without being in the same subnet as the Port's assigned LAN IP, communication will fail between the Edge and the LAN device. Please make sure that no other device on this same network has an overlapping IP address as this will also prevent proper communication.
