Please note: You can only write to counter values with the use of PM500D0400800F00 or PM500D0301600F00 Digital Input Panel meters. The Analog Input versions PM500A0301600F00 or PM500A0400800F00 are read only and do not have the ability to write to inputs.
This article will go over the steps to configure your PM50 Panel Meter to use wireless MODBUS TCP/IP. This article uses a FlexEdge DA70 - FlexEdge® Automation Controller 3-Sled with HDMI output – 1 RS-232, 2 RS-485 Ports with a Wi-Fi Sled DA Series FlexEdge Wi-Fi Sled to configure two PM50 - Graphical Digital Panel Meter PM-50 4.3-inch Display panel meters to communicate wirelessly using MODBUS TCP/IP. PRE-REQUISITES
- You will need Admin access to your PM50 Panel meter in order to configure your Wi-Fi settings.
- PM50 Firmware version 2.0.0 recommended
IN THIS ARTICLE
Configure Wi-Fi Sled
- Install Wi-Fi Sled into DA50 or DA70.
- DA50 Sled Installation – HMS Support Portal
- DA70 Sled Installation – HMS Support Portal
- Open Crimson 3.2 Software then click File < New to create a new database
- Add Wi-Fi Interface to Sled 1:
- Press OK
- Click Device Configuration < Wi-Fi 1 to configure Wi-Fi sled settings
- Port Mode = Manual Configuration or DHCP
- IP Address, Internet Mask, and Gateway information will need to be completed.
- Set Wireless Mode = Access Point
- Create SSID and PASSWORD for Wi-Fi sled
- Click DHCP Server
- Server Mode = Server
- Give Private IP start and end address.
- Click ACCESS POINT and confirm settings
- Click Save File and proceed to connect PM50 devices to Wi-Fi sled using SSID and PASSWORD just created.

Instructions for Wi-Fi Configuration
- Press the Gear Icon in the top right of your display to enter the System Configuration menu
- Press the system configuration icon to configure your Wi-Fi settings. Select Network Configuration, Set Up Wireless Network
- Select Wi-Fi Configuration. Then select Enable Wi-Fi = ON. Press right red arrow to advance to next parameter
- You will need to set an Admin Password to use Wi-Fi, confirm password. Press red right arrow to advance
- Wi-Fi Connection Mode = Client
- Enable DHCP Client = ON
- SSID is assigned from the configuration of your Wi-Fi sled in your FlexEdge device
- Password is assigned from the configuration of your Wi-Fi sled in your FlexEdge device.
- Enable Modbus/TCP over Wi-Fi = ON
- Apply Settings
- Once connected, you will see the Wi-Fi symbol appear on the Menu bar of your main display
Instructions for obtaining IP address
- Select Device icon to enter the Device Settings < Misc. Configuration < About this device and click right arrow to go to Network Configuration Section
- The Network Configuration Section provides the Wi-Fi configuration details with its IP Information or any connection issues
Instructions for Input Configuration of PM50
- You will have (1) PM50 that is connected with the sensor or encoder receiving the incoming signal. The input will be configured in Device < Signal Input Configuration menu.
- Counter Input Configuration < Input A < Digital Filter < Input Logic Selection for Counter < Logic Selection for Input < Apply Settings
- Then, Counter Configuration < Counter A < Operating Mode Counter < Decimal Point < List Selection = List A < Scale Factor for List A < Count Load for List A < Scale Multiplier = 1 < Reset Action < Reset At Power-Up < Apply Settings

- The second PM50 that will be receiving the wireless data, will need to be configured for Counter A as this is the register that we will be writing to.
Instruction for Display Settings
- You will need to configure your PM50 to display Counter A values.
- This can be done in Home Screen < Screen Configuration < Widget Selection < Screen Number < Display Style < Signal Type < Counter Type = Counter A < Unit for Counter A < Apply Settings.
Crimson 3.2 Configuration
- Click Communications to configured Protocol 1 and Protocol 2 for Modbus TCP/IP Master
- This will automatically create a new device for each protocol. Please rename each device to something applicable such as PM50 or Meter 1 and Meter 2
- Click on the device to enter the IP address information which can be found in your PM50.
- Confirm your Ping Holding Register is set to 41 for the PM50 Digital Input
- Create a data tag from the PM50 that has the sensor connected.
- Please note the PM50 Modbus Register table uses 32 bit word and will need to be to word as long
- Go back to Communications tab and add a gateway block to the PM50 you wish to write to
- Confirm the gateway block is set to Crimson to Device
- If configured properly you will begin to see the values on your second PM50.
