Crimson 3.2 and Cogent Datahub OPCUA Server Driver

This article covers how to setup Crimson 3.2 based devices to work with Cogent Datahub OPCUA Server driver.

You will need to have Cogent Datahub installed on your pc to test this out.

Setting Up Crimson

1. Under Network - Click on Protocol 1
2. A box will pop up letting you select the appropriate driver - Select OPC UA Client
3. Click OK
4. If you need to see the output from the driver enable "Debug Output"
5. Now enable the driver.

OPCUA Setup

1. Assigning an IP to the OPC UA Server - Be aware that 4840 is not a standard port that IT management will keep open, it is highly likely you will need to request having this port opened on any "managed" network switches if you intend to pass data thru them.
2. Assigning Username and Password Credentials
3. Cutting off Spanning Reads
4. Downloading the Data Model

1. Once you have selected the OPCUA Client driver that will appear under Protocol 1, right underneath this will appear "Dev1".  Change the name of this device to something you will recognize in the future.
2. Give the device the proper IP and TCP/IP Port.  Note: OPCUA does not use UDP at all.
3. For right now leave the client security as none until you get the basic drivers talking to each other
4. Same thing for Username and Password- Leave them blank for now.  We want to get the basic communications working before we start to add in complexity into this project

5. Be sure to cut off Spanning Reads for this driver

   

    

    

Downloading the Data Model

1. Under the "Auto Configure", click on the "Download Data Model from Device"
2. A box will pop up asking for a name, give it a name you can remember and also the download location.
3. If you are successful a box will appear that says you have successfully downloaded so many nodes... See below

ADDITIONAL INFO (Optional)

Some companies will want to change from the default port of 4840 for OPCUA to something else.  

You will need to verify that any managed switching is set up to pass that data or you will not be able to download from the device or software that is acting as your OPCUA Server.
