Abstract
This document describes using Crimson software to set up a tag using a crimson function that will help in detecting whether the communication between the Red Lion device and another redlion device/ third party device/PLC is online or offline.

Use Case
Detect whether comms is online or offline.
Required Software:
Crimson 3.0, Crimson 3.1 & Crimson 3.2
Crimson Configuration:
You an use the command Isdeviceonline() to determine the comms status.
This function will return a OFF or ON depending on whether you have comms or not.
Isdeviceonline() function will work only for Master drivers. It will work regardless of whether comms is over serial or Ethernet.
In my example below I have used Modbus RS485, the device number(Index) is 2 It could be a different number in your crimson database.
You will go to the data tags section, create a new flag tag -> source -> data source -> General -> Isdeviceonline(2)
Tag 2 will show ON when comms is online and OFF when comms is offline.
