Symptom:
When starting the i4SCADA TestCenter application, you may receive an error message:
"This application has performed an illegal operation and needs to shut down. For further information please contact WEBfactory GmbH."
Cause:
The XML configuration file containing the configuration settings could be corrupted due to an unexpected character.
Solution:
- Open the (hidden) directory C:\ProgramData\WEBfactory
- Rename the file WFCommConfig.xml to WFCommConfig.xml_old
- Restart the i4SCADA Testcenter
- A new empty config file is created
- Recreate the server settings in the "Communication" menu

Check the old XML file with an online XML validation tool to determine the cause.
