QUESTION
Why does my Ewon say "LAN and WAN IP addresses configured are conflicting"?
ANSWER
This error is because of a LAN/WAN conflict. The Ewon is fundamentally a network router and, as such, the subnets on the LAN and WAN interfaces cannot have any overlapping addresses. When a router receives a packet, there can only be one destination IP address. The ranges of possible addresses have to be unique across the network interfaces so the router can reason which interface the traffic should go to.
The Ewon is a router by design in order to increase security. This way, remote access is restricted to the Ewon's LAN interface and will not allow the VPN user to reach the rest of the network.
The LAN/WAN conflict can be resolved two ways:
- Change the IP and/or subnet settings on the LAN or WAN interface so there is no overlap. This can be achieved by changing your machine network or by moving the WAN to another network or VLAN on the factory side. You will need to work with local IT to discuss possible solutions for your specific situation.
- Use a second router (which could be another Ewon) to go from the site subnet to a new subnet that connects to your current Ewon's WAN. Resolving the error this way is less ideal but allows you to keep both existing network setups. Refer to the following article for details:
