PRE-REQUISITES
An Anybus CompactCom 30/40 with a network type that requires the use of a Device Description File
PROBLEM
You are using an Anybus CompactCom product in your development, and you want to know if there is a way to generate its Device Description File automatically, in order to speed up your development process.
SOLUTION
In general, HMS provides example Device Description Files for the Anybus CompactCom products, and the example files can be used as a skeleton to manually write your own file according to your implementation.
However, if you are using an Anybus CompactCom 40 that requires a Device Description File, then Anybus offers a generator tool for many networks, which simplifies that process greatly by generating the file for you automatically. This is valid for the following networks: PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, and POWERLINK.
The corresponding generator tool can be found on each applicable product's page.
The Anybus CompactCom 30 EtherCAT is also compatible with the same generator tool used for the Anybus CompactCom 40 EtherCAT. For any other Anybus CompactCom 30 product that requires a Device Description File, then you would need to use the example file provided and customize it to fit your implementation.
