PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
You have installed a PROFINET device in your network. After assigning the IP address and Station Name to it, when you try to establish a connection between the PROFINET Master Simulator and the device, you keep getting the following error:
HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT
- Just as the error message suggests, the first thing to do is to check that the IP settings of the PROFINET device match those of the network adapter you are using on your PC. Go in the properties of your network adapter, and take a note of its settings, then make sure that the IP settings you assign to the PROFINET device match those.
- If despite the previous step, you are still getting that error, then the next thing to check is your Firewall settings.
- First, check that the PROFINET Master Simulator is not blocked by the firewall. Check the list of apps that are allowed/blocked by the firewall. Make sure it is set it up as shown on the screenshot bellow, because if not setup correctly here, or if it's not allowed at all, you will get that timeout error.
- If despite this, the error still persists, you should check the advanced settings of the firewall and make sure that for the PROFINET Master Simulator, the TCP and UDP rules are enabled for inbound and outbound traffics.
You should verify that those rules are setup correctly. For example, in the UDP settings for the inbound traffic shown on the following screenshot, if 'Enable' is not ticked and/or under the Action section, the connection is blocked or allowed only if it is secure, it will lead to the same error.
